Lance Keimig is drawn to photographing at night which imparts a certain mysterious beauty and intrigue of "off-limits" places as well as new and old icons of Boston. As is typical of his new work, Keimig utilizes a variety of existing light sources that range from simple construction lights, to detail lights on structures that give off a sparkle that highlight Boston's old and new infrastructure. "I think of light as the pigment of the nocturnal canvas, with time as its medium. Night photography is the expression of time in a way that we cannot perceive with our own senses. We experience time as a continuous flow, but a night photograph is a representation of time compressed into a single moment". Keimig has been teaching photography at the New England School of Photography, as well as leading workshops in California, Texas, Massachusetts, Ireland, and Scotland. In 2003 he co-founded the Mono Lake Photo Workshops with Christian Waeber to promote interest in the fragile ecosystem of the Eastern Sierra though photography. In 1997 Keimig co-founded The Nocturne Night Photography Workshops with Tim Baskerville, based in San Francisco. He studied photography at San Francisco's Academy of Art College and Calumet Master Photographic Workshops. |
