Sidney  Hurwitz

"Boston  Views": Sydney Hurwitz & Lance Keimig

November 30th,  2007  -  January  5th,  2008

Sidney Hurwitz, well known for paying homage to the bygone era of industrial sites, has additionally had a great respect for the built environment of his own city of Boston.  Many of the images are of structures no longer in existence, as in Orange Line with it's operator's house, perched on top of the elevated line and Station Stairs.   These structures, so quickly disappearing from our cultural landscape, catch the eye of the nationally known artist.  Never idealized, but with great respect, Hurwitz's hand-colored etchings with aquatint are a way of preserving their integrity.

Sidney Hurwitz has been exhibiting extensively for the past fifty years.  His prints are included in such notable collections as the Museum of Modern Art, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Library of Congress, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park, the Boston Public Library, and the Krakow National Museum.
